BLENDING 101
All-natural peanut butter is an excellent source of protein, which can be added quickly to your morning smoothie or post-run snack. However, all-natural peanut butter can be pricey, especially if it is a staple in your diet. If you learn how to make your own peanut butter at home, you can ensure there are no unwanted ingredients like added sugars or hydrogenated oils.
A high-quality blender, like a Blendtec, makes it quick and simple to make your own peanut butter at home. The Blendtec’s signature dull blade crushes peanuts quickly and lets you control the texture, sweetness, and taste of your peanut butter.
HOMEMADE PEANUT BUTTER
When making your own peanut butter at home, be sure to buy the right type of peanuts for the job. Never use pre-salted nuts, as this can lead to a peanut butter that is too salty. Most bulk food stores sell shelled, skinned, raw peanuts by the pound, and natural food stores offer organic peanuts, too. Buying raw peanuts allows you to roast them yourself and experiment to find the taste and texture you like best. And because you’re buying them in bulk, they’re much more affordable.
INGREDIENTS
2 tbsp peanut oil*
1tsp kosher salt
3cups roasted and unsalted peanuts
INSTRUCTIONS
FourSide or WildSide+ Jar
Add peanuts and salt to FourSide or WildSide+ jar and secure lid. Blend on Low speed for 15 seconds, then increase speed to High and blend until 50 seconds.
Using a spatula or Spoonula, move peanuts towards center of jar, add oil and secure lid.
Blend on medium to medium-low speed for 50 seconds, then blend on medium to medium-high speed for 50 seconds.
*You can also make peanut butter without the added oil. Instead of adding the oil after the second cycle, simply blend the peanut butter for an additional 50 seconds on Low speed. Then, continue blending for two additional cycles as directed above.
Twister Jar
Reduce ingredients by ½. Add peanuts and salt to Twister Jar.
Blend on a medium to medium-high speed for 50 seconds or until desired texture is reached. Turn lid counterclockwise while blending.
Tip: You can also make peanut butter without the added peanut oil. Instead of adding the oil after the second cycle, simply blend the peanuts for an additional 50 seconds on Low, then continue blending for two additional cycles as directed above.
